The 13th Electromagnetic Launch Technology Symposium will be held May 22-25, 2006, at Dorint Sanssouci Hotel in Potsdam close to Berlin, the capital of Germany. The German membership of the European Electromagnetic Launch Society is pleased to host this event under the sponsorship of the Institute for Advanced Technology (IAT) through the U.S. Army.

The Electromagnetic Launch Technology Symposium (EML) is a biennial event that serves as the principal forum for the discussion, interchange, and presentation of research and development on critical technologies for accelerating macroscopic objects or projectiles to hypervelocities using electromagnetic or electrothermochemical launchers. The EML Symposia have a longstanding international reputation as a catalyst for stimulating research in the field of electromagnetic launch. In response to the increasing interest of homeland defense organizations, electromagnetic armor and directed energy effectors have been included in the symposium schedule. We expect the Symposium venue to be very dynamic.

In May 1998, the U.S. EMLA and the European EMLS announced their decision to consolidate their Symposia. The 13th EML will be the fourth in the series under this new structure. During the Symposium, researchers and developers share and exchange a wealth of knowledge through oral and poster presentations and discuss their results with governmental and industrial representatives. The Symposium’s proceedings are the major archival source of papers published in this field.
